Design and testing of a solar-operated clock for campus use
Dr. Asiegbu Anyalewechi Daniel

In this work the design and testing of a solar-operated clock system for campus use has been implemented. The design uses three solar panels each of 130W capacity and two solar batteries each of 200AH/12V capacity to power four identical giant quartz clocks synchronized to keep uniform time collectively. A pulsed automatic alarm system that provides time alert at hourly intervals was also incorporated. On testing the system was found to keep accurate time showing that design was successful...

Second law analysis of heat and hall effect of an oscillating plate in a porous medium
Okedoye M. Akindele and Ayandokun O. Oluropo

This paper reports calculation of the entropy generation due to heat transfer and fluid friction on a porous plate for the conjugate problem of an electrically conducting fluid in the presence of strong magnetic field by introducing the Hall currents. The momentum and energy balance equations are solved analytically, using perturbation technique. The fluid half-space is considered to be porous. The influences of the thermal Grashof numbers, heat generation/absorption and Hartmann number on...

Petrography and major element geochemistry of habo formation sediments, Kachchh, Western India: Clues for provenance
Roohi Irshad and Ahmad, A. H. M

The Habo Dome is one of the most important exposures of Bathonian to Kimmergian sediments among the Kachchh Mainland exposures. The study area is represented by sandstones, shale and limestone, the deposits of shallow marine to fluvio-deltaic environment that was strongly influenced by the fluctuation of relative sea level. Detrital mineralogy and major element chemistry of sandstones and shales of this Jurassic succession in the pericratonic Kachchh Basin have been used to investigate...

Hardware implementation of dragon – a fast word based stream cipher for wireless sensor networks
Kayalvizhi, R., Vaidehi. V., Charan Kumar, U., Venkat Dubash, L. and Dinesh Chara, R. J.

This paper presents the hardware implementation of Dragon – a fast word based stream cipher, for use in wireless sensor networks. Dragon is a highly efficient word based stream cipher which takes a 128 or 256 bit key and 128 or 256 bit Initialization vector as input and produces a 64-bit key stream for each
round of operation. Dragon is resistant to various forms of attacks. This paper introduces an implementation of Dragon in FPGA/Xilinx, whose memory occupancy is only 2KB which is...

Towards sustainable sugar cane production in South Africa: A case study of the lowveld area, mpumalanga province
Mandla S. Mnisi and Cliff S. Dlamini

Sugarcane production is an economically important activity in South Africa. TSB Sugar is among the top three South African sugar milling companies and owns the 2 mills in Mpumalanga. The overall objective of the study was to analyze the joint venture/partnership model and its implications in sustainable sugarcane production as implemented by TSB Sugar in the Lowveld area. According to the participants, the company provides assistance to small sugar cane growers in that, farms of 5ha to 20ha...

Techniques of preparing edible protein films: Review
Tanima Bhattacharya

In recent days human beings are much concerned about healthy environment. They are becoming health conscious too, which lead to disposal of synthetic polymers based food packages and acceptance of bio packaging. Scientists and researchers are working on developing such bio packaging. These types of bio packages can be made from various types of biopolymers like polysaccharides; proteins and lipids. Protein based bio packages are mostly accepted because of its high degradability and their...

Water pollution in Karur district - A critical review
Marimuthu, T., Rajendran, S. and Manivannan, M.

Karur is a textile city. High values of TDS, TH, chloride, alkalinity, calcium and magnesium were found in most of the groundwater samples of surrounding areas and effluent out -let samples of dye effluent treatment plant due to textile industries of karur and improper treatment of dye effluent treatment plants. Though the CETPs are treating the effluent, the Amaravathi river and the surrounding ground water quality gets deteriorated [15- 16].This review critically analyses...

Heat transfer and friction characteristics of artificially roughened solar air heater duct: A review
Pranab Kanti Roy and Kisalaya Chakrabarti

The use of artificial roughness is an effective technique to enhance the rate of heat transfer by creating turbulence in a fully developed turbulent flow. Investigators reported number of roughness geometries on the heat transfer and friction characteristics of the artificially roughened solar air heater duct. In this paper an attempt has been made to review the different roughness arrangement and geometries to improve the heat transfer capability of solar air heater duct. The correlation of...

Properties on quantified higgs field in altered stability conditions governed by the expansion of space
Kisalaya Chakrabarti

Expansion of universe is the prime factor for the existence of mass in the universe. If for some reason expansion stops which is believed due to the presence of Dark energy present in the universe, the mass of the subatomic particle reduces to zero because the contraction of Higgs field is not balanced by the expansion.

Residual analysis of production, exportation and consumption of electricity in Nigeria
Alaje Daniel, T., Fatumo Segun, A. and Adeoye Tolulope

This study investigates the relationship between the production, exportation and consumption of electricity in Nigeria from the period of 2000 to 2011. This shows how the knowledge of analyzing residuals can help in developing a good model for prediction. The application was restricted to a linear regression model and it was developed for predicting consumption of electricity in Nigeria. Tests based on residuals analysis such as heteroscedasticity, multicolliniarity, and autocorrdation were...

Success story of Mc. D in India: Story of it’s struggle in Indian market
Bhawna Mishra and Subodh Dwivedi

McDonald’s Corporation, established in 1948, carries one of the world’s most well-known and valuable brands and dominates the global market in quick service restaurant segment. The company has more than 30,000 restaurants in 119 countries serving 68 million customers each day (McDonalds, 2012) Each country poses a new challenge for McDonalds in maintaining or improving their position. The purpose of this paper is to do swot analysis and examine the entry and establishment of McDonald’s in...

Non-expanded rice based snack: Effect of processing variables on characteristics and optimization of extrusion process...
Amit Baran Das and Prem Prakash Srivastav

The effect of extrusion conditions, including feed moisture (40–45%), screw speed (300–400 rpm) and barrel temperature (65–75°C) on the extrusion behaviour and extrudate properties of non-expanded rice snack was investigated and optimization of process variables was carried out using response surface and genetic algorithm. Polynomial equations were developed for the extrudate properties such as water solubility index (WSI), water absorption index (WAI), specific mechanical energy (SME),...

Study on cement industry pollution and morphological attributes of til (Sesamum indicum), Kodinar, Gujrat, India
Sadhana Chaurasia, Ashwani Karwaria and Anand Dev Gupta

Increased concentration of cement industry pollutants causes invisible injuries like progressive decline in the physiological process such as photosynthetic ability and respiration rate of leaves. Similarly, visible injuries such as closure leaf stomata, a marked reduction in growth and productivity were observed due to cement industry pollution. The present study particularly discriminate the effect of cement industry pollution on sesemum indicum which is popularly grown in and around the...
