Genetic divergence analysis in muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.)
Bhuthkuru Praveen Kumar Reddy, Hameedunnisa Begum, Neelum Sunil, Medagam Thirupathi Reddy, Jampala Dilip Babu, Reddivenkatagari Subbarama...

Thirty five genotypes of muskmelon (Cucumis melo L.) were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications at the Experimental Farm, Vegetable Research Station, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India during late rabi season (November 2010 to February 2011) for genetic diversity based on 18 morphological traits. Cluster analysis revealed distinct clustering pattern and grouping of genotypes into six distinct clusters. Cluster II was the largest (22 genotypes) followed...

Automated data capturing and recognition technology to minimize human intervention in university examination system
Mohini and Dr. Amar Jeet Singh

Manual data entry from hand written data is very time consuming, tedious and prone to many errors more so where there is bulk amount of data is involved. This is the area where there is a requirement of automated data capturing and recognition technology. Using a recognition engine to convert text or handwriting from the printed page into computer readable characters saves up to 90 percent of the time it would take to enter the information manually. To fetch the data with minimal human...

Phytomonitoring of atmospheric pollution in a dry tropical environment using perennial trees
Sarala Thambavani, D. and Maheswari, J.

Air quality is a major environmental problem in many developed and developing countries. Atmospheric pollution is mainly caused by high concentration of particulate matter (PM10, PM2.5), Oxides of Sulphur (SOx) and Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx) .If their concentration is more than tolerance limit of plants, they adversely affect plants. Variation of plants biochemical parameters like Relative water content (RWC), pH, Ascorbic acid and Total chlorophyll (TCh) content were found to be dependant on...

Effect of varied intensities, frequencies and densities of hollow sprints on the performance of 100 meters sprint among...
Dr. A. Mahaboobjan

The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of varied intensities, frequencies and densities of the hollow sprint of the performance of 100 meters sprints. To facilitate the study, eighty school boys of government higher secondary school, Salem district, were selected as subjects at random and they were divided into eight equal groups. The data were collected on 100mts running performance before training (pre test) as well as after the training (post test). The hollow sprints involve...

Influence of aqueous extract of Calendula officinalis (Flower) on the reproductive function of adult male rats
Kushwaha Sonalika, Agarwal Meera and Sharma Priyanka

Oral administration of aqueous extract of Calendula officinalis flower to male rats at the dose level of 100mg/kg body weight for 60 days did not cause body weight loss but decreased the weight of testis, epididymis, seminal vesicle and ventral prostate in a significant manner. Sperm motility as well as sperm density were reduced highly significantly which resulted in 45% negative fertility. Serum testosterone level showed highly significant reduction. Biochemical parameters like total...

Micropropagation of lysimachia laxa baudo
Sanjoy Gupta, S. Kaliamoorthy, Jayashankar Das, A. A. Mao and Soneswar Sarma

An in vitro regeneration protocol was developed for Lysimachia laxa Baudo. Maximum number of shoot (9.10±0.32) was induced by culturing nodal explants in Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented with 17.76 µM benzyladenine (BA) and 5.37 µM α – naphthalene acetic acid (NAA). Elongated shoots were best rooted, with 100% rooting efficiency, in MS medium containing 2.85 µM indole-3-acetic acid (IAA). Among the two explants (nodal and shoot tips) used, nodal explants were found to be the...

Effect of calcium chloride salt on the curdling of cross breed cow milk- a case report
Akhilesh K. Verma, Singh, V. P. and Pathak, V.

A case of cross breed cow milk having problem of curdling of milk on incubation was reported in the polyclinics of college of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, U. P. Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Veterinary University and Go Anusandhan Sansthan,Mathura, U. P. India and milk samples were send to the Department of Livestock Products Technology of the same university. The chemical composition of milk was normal and the health status of cow was also normal. The case was suspected for lack of...

Effects of HgCl2 on the growth and biochemical composition of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803
Xiangyuan Deng, Lingbo Fan, Wanwan Ding, Xiang Luo and Kun Gao

In this study, the physiological and biochemical responses of the freshwater microalgae Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 to HgCl2 were compared and evaluated using 96 h growth tests in a batch-culture system. The results showed that HgCl2 had a significant inhibition on the growth and Chl a concentration of Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. Moreover, remarkable physiological and biochemical responses also occurred when the microalgae were exposed to HgCl2. The general increase in MDA content suggests...

Effect of shea waste slurry on soil physical properties in peri-urban tamale, northern Ghana
Abagale, F. K., Abdulai, N. and Ojediran, J. O.

The study determined the effect of Shea waste-slurry on soil physical properties in two peri-urban areas of Tamale Metropolis in Ghana. Results indicated bulk densities of 0.95 to 1.35 g/cm3 and 1.27 to 1.33 g/cm3 for disposal sites at Gumu and Kasalgu respectively. Higher bulk densities of 1.30 to 1.52 g/cm3 for Gumu and 1.35 to 1.52 g/cm3 for Kasalgu were recorded for the non-disposal sites. Gravimetric moisture content ranged from 0.08 to 0.15 g/g for disposal site and 0.10 to 0.11 g/g...

Solid waste management approach in port harcourt municipality, rivers state, Nigeria: The effects on public health and...
Tamunobereton-ari, I., Omubo-Pepple, V. B. and Igbani, G. N.

This paper x-rayed the holistic impact of solid waste management approach in Port Harcourt municipality on the environment and public health of the people of the area; ranging from waste generation, storage, segregation, collection, treatment and disposal. The study area is densely populated and enormous volumes of solid wastes are generated, which demand proper collection and storage and disposal. Survey method (primary and secondary sources) of investigation was used to obtain the required...
